March 30, 2020 —
Dear Girl Choir choristers, families, and staff,
Although we have been physically apart for the past two weeks, you all have remained in my daily thoughts and prayers. I have to tell you, being able to correspond with our choristers via our Google Classroom on rehearsal nights has delivered such sweet respite in these uncertain times.
I wanted to reach out to you today to give you some updates about our plans and share some of my thoughts during this Covid-19 health crisis:
- Our community is still as vibrant as ever. Wow! It’s amazing to see what is possible with the current available technology, and we look forward to hearing from you. Thanks to everyone who has sent in pictures and video already. Please keep it coming. We love to hear you SING!
- Poetry & Prose, the spring concert, will now be virtual. Our in-person rehearsals and concerts are cancelled through mid-May due to the Florida governor’s latest guidelines as of today to practice social distancing in South Florida. Instead, we are working together using both Google Classroom and Zoom to put together virtual GCSF performances. Here’s a lovely example from the Seattle Girls Choir: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSguUciSFf0
- Tour decisions are being made. Our Mezzo Choir trip to Disney this April has been canceled. Our Concert/Chamber tour to Oregon this July is still on the schedule, but could be canceled. A final decision will be made by the end of April.
- We will keep making music together. Our artistic staff and I are committed to the continued music education of our choristers and to continuing the joys of creating beauty in the world. We are excited to see how the Poetry & Prose (virtual edition) will be, and we absolutely cannot wait until we can be together in person again.
I feel so lucky to be a part of this incredible community of smart, sensible, and social people. Thank you as always for your love and support of the arts.
