The Girl Choir of South Florida presents “Winter’s Wind” at the Rose and Alfred Miniaci Center for the Performing Arts. The central piece of this program is a stunning setting of John Keats’ poem “The Winter’s Wind” arranged by an alumna of the Girl Choir. Throughout each of our five ensemble’s sets, there will be a continuous theme of wind: a thread of the unseen, the unknowable, and the unpredictable. Pieces like Shakespeare’s “Blow, Blow Thou Winter Wind”, arranged by Ruth Elaine Schram, exemplify this theme by exploring the often biting nature of human relationships. Other pieces like Debussy’s “Noël des enfants qui n’ont plus de maisons” present a hopeful vision of the unseen forces that move between people and places. In addition, traditional and modern holiday music from around the world will be performed by each ensemble, in collaboration with local instrumentalists. Each ensemble’s set will culminate in a professionally choreographed performance of a modern jazz or musical theater piece such as “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”. With the assistance of outstanding piano accompanists and instrumentalists, each tier of the choir will offer the audience a reflection of the hope and sublimity of the holiday season.
