Artistic Director Wallis Peterson to Take Sabbatical; Lindsey Novitske Named Interim Artistic Director
FORT LAUDERDALE (August 17, 2016) – The Girl Choir of South Florida announces that its founding Artistic Director Wallis Peterson will be on sabbatical for the 2016-2017 season and that Lindsey Novitske has been named to serve as Interim Artistic Director.
“Since its inception in 2005, the Girl Choir has aspired to set the standard for excellence in choral music,” said Ms. Peterson. “During this sabbatical, I plan to research innovative works and artistic possibilities for the Girl Choir as well as to envision new ways in which the voices of young women can remain an active and vibrant part of our community. Lindsey is an outstanding educator and musician, and I am confident that she will ensure the continuation of the high-quality academic and artistic experience for which the Girl Choir is known.”
“All of us here at the Girl Choir are grateful for Wallis’s guidance and vision in creating such a unique experience for our girls, our families, and our audience members,” said John Wien, Chair of the Board of Trustees, “and we are glad to welcome Lindsey into the Girl Choir family. Her expertise and talent will be invaluable as we continue our mission of transforming girls’ lives through musical excellence.”
Ms. Novitske is presently the Director of Choirs and IB Music at Saint Andrew’s School in Boca Raton, Florida, as well as the District 14 Coordinator of the Florida Vocal Association. Her singers regularly receive superior ratings at music performance assessments and are consistently accepted into statewide honor choirs. She has led choirs on tours to Orlando, New Orleans, Austria, and New York (where her singers performed in Carnegie Hall). In addition to her teaching and directing, she is also the former section leader, vocal soloist, and flutist for the Church on the Hill in Boca Raton. Ms. Novitske holds a Master’s Degree in Music Education from Florida State University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Florida Atlantic University.
“I’m honored to be a part of the Girl Choir of South Florida and I look forward to continuing the tradition of excellence established by Wallis,” said Ms. Novitske. “The opportunity to work with such fine conductors and talented students is truly a blessing.”
