On Friday, May 13, the Girl Choir of South Florida presents “Harmony and Discord”, a musical exploration of the human struggle to reconcile the conflicts and paradoxes that surround us in the world. Audiences will be taken on a musical journey through the trials of war and the struggle for peace in settings of poignant texts such as In Flander’s Fields and Willian Blake’s The Tyger and The Lamb. Listeners will hear the fiery sounds of Betinis’ Jerusalem Luminosa, and soothed by tranquil works such as Daley’s If Ye Love Me and Szymko’s Nada te Turbe.
This expression of musical conflict and resolution will span the globe and the centuries, and singers from all six levels of our program will be featured in this performance. Each ensemble will present selections representing varied languages, traditions, and musical genres, as well as professionally choreographed favorites such as Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend, and the Beatles’ Hello, Goodbye.
“Harmony and Discord” will truly be a musicological exploration of the unique and powerful experience of girls raising their voices together to examine the complexities of ourselves and our world.
