Tuition and Fees

Home Default

The Girl Choir of South Florida is a tuition-based program. However, we believe that our mission, “transforming girls’ lives through musical excellence,” includes all those who love to sing, regardless of economic circumstances. We maintain an extensive need-based tuition assistance policy, and no child will be excluded from participation due to financial reasons.

Pay what you can with our sliding-scale Tuition Assistance Program

The goal of our tuition assistance program is to meet the stated financial needs of our families. We have met 90% or more of our members’ stated financial needs since 2016, and we are committed to expanding our resources to continue making Girl Choir as accessible as possible.

Our tuition assistance application form is part of the online registration packet. It requires a copy of a parent or legal guardian’s most recent federal income tax return (IRS 1040) and a brief statement about why you are applying.

Once the form is submitted, the financial committee of our Board of Trustees will make an award determination and applicants will be notified before the start of the season.

Tuition and Fees for the 2023-2024 Season

Additionally, there are annual fees that apply once per year to each chorister:

Registration Fee 75 per year after July 1st
Uniform Rental Fee 45 per year

The uniform rental fee covers the care and maintenance of the choristers performance attire, as well as any necessary tailoring. The fee does not include required performance shoes, which must be purchased by the chorister. Choristers may also need to provide their own black pants and/or jeans to wear with a choir-provided polo or t-shirt for informal performances.

All fees and tuition are non-refundable.

Tour/Travel

Each choir travels to form bonds with one another and to perform in new places. These tours give our choristers the opportunity to share their music with a broader audience as well as to develop relationships and collaboration skills necessary to work productively as a group.

Primes and Prelude Choirs combine to take a short day trip within Broward County (i.e. Butterfly World) to perform. There is no additional fee to participate, but there may be some small costs, such as park entrance fees, required.

Mezzo and Melody Choirs combine to take a one or two day trip to destinations within Florida. There is a supplemental fee for each tour to cover meals, shared expenses, and other incidentals. This fee varies from year to year, and in the past has ranged from $50 to $150.

Harmony Choir, Concert Choir, and Chamber Singers have various travel opportunities throughout the year. Members of these ensembles may choose to individually audition for state-wide and national American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) honor choir festivals, as well as the University of North Florida’s “Jacksonville Sings” choir festival. Those who travel to these festivals are responsible for all their own costs. In the past, costs have been approximately $200 for in state festivals and more for national festivals.

Previously, Concert Choir and Chamber Singers have toured to national and international destinations such as Nashville, San Francisco, New York, and London. These optional summer tours were an additional fee that varied based upon destination (national or international) and duration (usually 5-8 days). The cost varied from year to year, and in the past has ranged between $1,200-$1,800. If we plan another tour for these ensembles, information will be provided at least a year in advance. Members receiving tuition assistance will also be provided with funding to help with the cost of tour.
