Lilly Rogers is a proud alumnae of The Girl Choir of South Florida and the current music specialist for The Blake School. Her love for music and choral singing as a young child began at The Blake School and continued to be fostered through The Girl Choir of South Florida. She continued her musical journey at Florida State University where she sang in and choreographed for the award winning a cappella group Vox. She led the group as Executive Director and Performance Director to multiple ICCA competitions and other festivals throughout the South.
Lilly came back to South Florida after spending some time in Boston, seeking to rejoin the flourishing music community she had known and loved during her younger years. Community and creating educational experiences for young musicians is her driving force and is so proud to be able to do this while also pouring back into the organizations that opened the doors for her in the first place.
Lilly now teaches general music education to students aged 2 through 14, while also directing choirs and theater productions for students in 3rd through 8th grades at The Blake School. She integrates education on history and media literacy through these productions, highlighting the works of great writers like Shakespeare and respected composers like Benjamin Britten.
Her teaching has also led her to begin an archival project she dubs “The Pooh Project”. In searching for appropriate yet challenging pieces for her students, she came upon the 1930’s book titled The Hums of Pooh composed by H. Fraser-Simson. Though copies of this book exist today and are in the public domain, they are inaccessible as modern pieces of sheet music due to the high cost of copies of this book. Lilly has begun to transcribe each piece from within the work to fit modern day engraving standards and to allow other choral directors and teachers to use this well-written and age appropriate music. She hopes to make the associated files free and accessible to all.
